Childhood Winter Traditions

When I was a kid I loved playing outside in the snow. We had a big backyard with a swingset and not much else — no landscaping or gardens to worry about trampling unseen under the snow. It was pretty much the perfect backyard for playing in the snow.
In particular, we liked to play outside in the snow with our neighbor’s daughter, one of my best friends growing up. My mom would get us all trussed up in our kids snowboard jackets, kids ski pants, and other other childrens ski clothing. (We also skied back then, so we had plenty of ski clothing and gear, perfect for playing in the snow!) Then we’d go out into the backyard and make snowmen and snow angels, build forts and tunnels, and jump off the swings into piles of snow.
When we were done playing in the snow, we would go inside to get warm again, and my mom would make us hot tea and popcorn. My friend discovered that she liked dipping her popcorn in her tea (though none of the rest of us liked it much).
I have some very fond memories of those winter afternoons spent playing in the snow!
